Squatting
Are you being squeezed out by ridiculously high rents and urban
gentrification? Tired of waiting for a disinterested government to come to
your assistance? Fed up with sleeping in parks/bus shelters/friend's
living room floors? Want to create and control your own living space? Take
matters into your own hands - go squat!
**** SQUATTING IS STILL LEGAL AND NECESSARY!****
We want you to be involved. The more people the better this will be for
all of us. We are stronger if we organise together, if we can create our
own solutions to the housing crisis and develop stronger communities to
house ourselves in the future.
We plan to open a large residential squat in North East London, with the
aim to prove that squatting can be a safe and secure way for all kinds of
people to house themselves. Don\'t worry if you have never squatted before,
we will all develop and share skills togather.
We are gathering at the Finsbury Park Station gate of Finsbury Park at
midday (12pm) on Saturday the 7th of November and from there we will be
moving into our new homes!
If you would like to be involved, either to help out practically or for a
place to live, then please come along on Saturday the 7th!

LMHR on Question Time
"This is a vital week for everyone opposed to racism and the Nazi views of the British National Party.
In this email:
1. Reasons to Protest This Thursday:
2. “Questioning Question Time”: Public Rally on Wednesday Night in central London
3. Keep the Nazi BNP off Question Time: Unite Against Fascism Protest Thursday 22 October, 5pm
4. LMHR post-protest gig/social @ Ginglik, Shepherds’ Bush
5. New-look LMHR website + support the cause and become a member
Reasons to Protest This Thursday:
1. Nick Griffin’s expected appearance on this week’s BBC Question Time will serve to legitimise the racist and fascist ideas of the BNP, regardless of how the debate on the show pans out. The BNP themselves understand this very well and are hyping it up, with Griffin being compared to Churchill and having a “Countdown to Question Time” counter on their website. Question Time is different to a news or documentary programme where the BNP can be exposed as Nazis or subjected to detailed tough questioning.
2. According to the broadcasting regulator Ofcom, the BBC is NOT obliged to give airtime to the BNP based on their having 2 MEPs. Ofcom say this is an “editorial decision” for the BBC – and we say it’s a cynical decision aimed at boosting ratings without caring for the consequences.
3. Whether or not you share our view that the BNP, uniquely, is a special case, a fascist organisation which should never be given the respectability of a public media platform for their views – but you believe that they are a fascist organisation like Hitler’s Nazis, and that their existence encourages racist violence, then you should protest on Thursday. If you’re not convinced of the No Platform argument then please join us to make sure the media reports on the huge number of people who believe the BNP are Nazi thugs who want an all-white Britain.

postal strike
Five reasons to back the post strikes
Leading union activist Chris Webb puts the case
1.Defending public services
Royal Mail bosses are determined to run down the postal service, making it slower, more expensive and less reliable.
They hope that if it gets bad enough the public will support another effort to privatise the company.
Many post workers have been in the job all their adult lives. We are committed to delivering a service based on need. The bosses and the government are in this for the short-term, and are only interested in profits.
2.Fighting to keep full time jobs
Royal Mail is slashing thousands of full-time jobs. More than 50,000 posts have been cut since 2002 and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Ultimately, they want to replace almost all full-time jobs with workers on part-time or temporary contracts.
But part-time work means part-time pay, part-time pensions, part-time sick pay – and part-time rights.
3.A battle for decent pay
Royal Mail boss Adam Crozier is Britain’s highest paid public servant. Since arriving at the company in 2003 he’s pocketed £6 million in pay and bonuses.
Post workers, on the other hand, are among the poorest in Britain. We earn around £100 less a week than the average skilled worker and many of us can only survive on overtime.
Now Royal Mail is telling us we have to accept a pay freeze – and that at least part of our overtime should be compulsory and free.
4.Stopping the union-busters
Our CWU union is the biggest barrier to those who want to cut jobs, services and pay in the post – and that’s why the company and the government are trying to drive us out of the industry.
To get their way they are bullying and intimidating our members, and using managers and non-unionised casual staff in an effort to break our regional strikes.
Bosses everywhere are watching what happens in this dispute. If Royal Mail can drive the union out of the postal service, others will try to do the same.
5.If the postal workers win, every worker wins
Our battle is one of the first in what will be a wider war. All political parties are preparing massive cuts in public spending and if the Tories win the next election, they will be absolutely ruthless.
The post workers’ strike is about drawing a line in the sand and telling any future government that we will not accept the smashing of our services.
If we are beaten, bosses everywhere will say: if we can take on the CWU and win, we can break you too. We must not allow them to do that

RAMPARTS RIP
RAMPARTS RIP
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2009/10/439872.html
After 5 years, rampART squat has finally been evicted after several resisted attempts by the police. the rampART squat and the king blues were born around the same time, around the same area. We played the majority of our early gigs there. A hub of political activity and an essential addition to the east london squatter community, ramparts will be sorely missed. May many new social centres be born from its ashes. May the spirit of rampARTs live on.
