Poem: Identity

Fingerprints on the wall
Iris scan on file at Whitehall
I am a national danger
And so are you
And everybody else I stress
From Weymouth to Inverness
Does the Government not know you too well?
We’re worthy of being in a terror cell so call the cops
And MI5
Then again is it a good plan
To call out Mr Policeman?
John Charles shot for having a tan
On the platform of the tube
What will the home secretary having my life story prove?
That they’re winning their invisible war?
Or that they can keep on lying
While they watch the poor overseas continue dying?
So while they make civil liberties slack
I want my identity back!

In full:

Dear Gordon Brown,
Your party led us into war after war that we didn’t want to fight and you added insult to injury by stripping away our civil liberties, the very thing that make Britain great.
Bringing in ID cards, surrounding us with CCTV and taking our right to protest doesn’t prevent crime it just increases your grip on us.
Money goes on bailing out banks and buying tanks while the police move on the homeless by waking them up and pouring water where they sleep.
We demand that you put all people before profit because all people are priceless.
No more will we fear each other, we are all equal. We will not let creed, sexuality or colour come between us, our only enemies are those who try to divide us.
We were born free and we want to live free. The people run this country, not unelected leaders. When we stand together as one we are strong because power comes from the bottom up, not the top down.

Watch your back all oppressors We are organising
